Recording a DJ set

Record a set straight from your mixer on the desktop app or your phone, lossless and crash-safe, then save it to Aden as a mix with its tracklist filled in from rekordbox, Traktor or Virtual DJ.

What it is

Plug your mixer into your computer or phone with USB and record your set. The recording lands on your device as it happens, so a crash, a closed app or a flat battery never costs you the set: Aden saves what was recorded and lists it next time. When you save it to Aden it becomes a private mix, and on the desktop its tracklist comes with it, read from what rekordbox, Traktor or Virtual DJ logged while you played.

Using it

On the desktop. Open DJ and press Record set. Aden picks your mixer when it can see one; choose another input from the menu beside the button. While it records you see the time and the level, with Clipping when the signal hits the top. If the cable comes out, the recording keeps running on silence and carries on in the same file when the mixer is back, so the tracklist times still line up. Your computer won't sleep while it records. A slow or frozen screen never stops the recording, and if Aden reloads or crashes mid-set it picks the recording up again on its own, in the same file, with silence for the seconds it missed. Press Stop when you're done. You can also type "record" in the command palette.

Recordings. Each recording is a lane with its waveform. Press play, or click the waveform to listen from that point. Click a name to rename it.

Saving it. Press Save to Aden on a recording. Check the title and the tracklist (leave out anything that doesn't belong; click a cue time to hear that moment), then save. It uploads as a private mix in your team, with each track cued at the moment it started. Your own tracks link to their Aden pages.

On your phone. Open Record mix, plug the mixer in with USB and press record. The screen shows which input it is recording from, and warns you if it is your phone's own microphone. Recordings stay on your phone until you upload them.

Where the files are. On the desktop, in your Music folder under Aden/Set recordings, as WAV files. On iPhone they are WAV too; Android records AAC.
