Shared team files on desktop
Move a file from your computer into a team from the rail, Finder or ⌘K. Every save syncs with the team, and a pin shows when a teammate saved a newer version.
What it is
A file you keep on your computer, like the team's finance sheet, can live in a team instead. You keep opening it in Excel (or whatever app you use), and everyone on the team works on the same file: your saves reach them, theirs reach you.
Using it
- From the rail: right-click a pinned file and choose Move to team…, pick the team and choose Move to <team>. The pin keeps working, wears the team's avatar in its corner, and its tooltip says which team it syncs with.
- From Finder: right-click any file and choose Quick Actions › Aden – Move to Team (Explorer on Windows lists it in the file's menu).
- From ⌘K: type "move to team" or "share file", or pick "Move <file> to a team" for a pinned file.
The file moves into the team's sync folder, under Team Documents. If the
team has no sync folder on this computer yet, one is set up beside your other
team folders (or in ~/Aden), and live sync turns on for that team.
When a teammate saved a newer version, the pin gets a dot. Click it to get the new version and open it, or right-click and choose Get the new version. If the file is still open (in Excel, say), close it first: the app won't swap a file out from under an open window.
If two people save at once, nobody's work is lost: the save that arrives second is kept beside the file as "<name> (<person>'s conflicted copy <date>)", and the file itself shows the other save.
To see it in Aden, right-click the pin and choose Show in <team>: the team's Documents page opens.
To delete it from the team, right-click the pin and choose Delete from <team>…, then Delete for everyone. The team's copy is gone for everyone and can't be restored; yours stays on your computer and stops syncing.
Your saves go up a few seconds after you save. This is file sync, not live co-editing: for two people typing in the same sheet at once, pin the Google Sheets or OneDrive link instead.
