Cloud sources for team files

Connected clouds appear as folders in team files. Click through Dropbox, Drive, OneDrive or Box in place, and copy anything across server-side.

What it is

Team files reads from the clouds you already use. Connect Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or Box once and each one becomes a folder in your files, sitting next to your own folders. Click into it and you are in your Dropbox, in the same file list, with the same search, the same breadcrumbs and the same tree view.

iCloud is not on that list, and cannot be: Apple exposes no API for reading your iCloud Drive from another app. On the desktop app it works as a folder instead. See icloud-drive.

Files copy into Aden. Your cloud keeps its own, and Aden never writes to it: every connection asks for read-only access.

Using it

Open Files in your team and choose Clouds to connect one. Approve the read-only access it asks for.
The cloud is now a folder in the list, named after the provider. Open it. Each folder is read the moment you open it, so nothing is fetched for a cloud you never look at.
Open a file to preview it, download it, or choose Open in Dropbox (or Drive, OneDrive, Box) to jump to it in the provider's own app.
To bring files over, tick them and choose Add to team files, or use the row action on a single file.

The transfer happens on Aden's side, straight from the provider into your team's storage, so a folder of 2 GB masters costs your browser nothing and you can close the tab while it runs. Files land at the top of team files under their own names, with (1) appended when the name is taken.

On your phone

The mobile app shows the same clouds under Clouds on the team's files screen. Tap one to browse it, tap a folder to go deeper, and tap a file to open it, add it to team files, or open it in the provider's app. Back walks up the folders.

Aden asks for read-only access, so renaming, deleting, moving and uploading all belong to the provider. Open in Dropbox is on every cloud file and folder for exactly that: it opens the item where those actions live. Whatever you change there shows here the next time you open the folder. Cloud folders are not drop targets and have no upload action for the same reason.

Preview and download read the file back through Aden, so nothing is copied into your team's storage until you ask for it, and a file too big to preview still downloads.

Per-file plan limits and your team's storage limit apply exactly as they do for a drag-and-drop upload, and a file that exceeds one is named in an error that says which limit it hit.

What doesn't come across

Google Docs, Sheets and Slides aren't listed. They have no file to copy. Export one to PDF or Office format in Drive first, and it appears.
Box bookmarks (web links) aren't files, so they aren't listed either.
Mega isn't supported. It has no OAuth API to connect an account with, so there is nothing for Aden to read without holding your password.

When a cloud isn't listed

Open Clouds on the files page. A cloud with a Connect button is ready to use. One that is greyed out has no app credentials on this environment yet; the tooltip says so and an admin can add them.
