Record ideas in a session

Record your mic, a browser tab or both into a session, mark good moments, and drag takes straight into your DAW.

Record a take

  1. Open the session's Files tab and choose Record session.
  2. Use the arrow beside it to pick What to record: your microphone, a tab or screen's audio, or both mixed together.
  3. Drop named markers while you record ("chorus hook" at 1:42).
  4. Stop to save the take to the session.

For tab audio, tick the box in your browser's share dialog to share the tab's sound, or there is nothing to record.

Tab audio works in Chrome, Edge and the Aden desktop app, not in Firefox or Safari. The desktop app can also record everything your computer plays.

While you record

  • A bar at the bottom follows you around Aden, so you can pause, add a marker, or stop and save from anywhere.
  • Hold a thumbs up to your webcam and the take gets a "Good idea" marker. The camera only reads your hands, on your computer.
  • The wand adds tuning, tone, reverb and delay, and the headphones button lets you hear yourself. Effects never change the file; download it with or without them.

After you record

  • Click a take's name to rename it.
  • Download it as a file any DAW opens, or drag it straight into FL Studio, Ableton or a folder.
  • The MIDI button finds the notes you sang, hummed or played, opens them in the piano roll, and lets you download them.

If your connection drops or the tab closes, Aden keeps the take on your device and offers to upload it when you come back.

Other ways in

  • Upload a recording you made in another app.
  • The Aden browser extension can record any open tab into a session, with no share dialog.
