Watermark your shares

Mark the music on a link so anyone can hear whose it is, and trace a leaked file back to the link it came from.

There are two kinds of watermark. Use either or both.

  • Audible: a short tag you upload (a voice drop, a producer stinger, a beep) that plays over the music every so often.
  • Inaudible: a hidden ID in the audio. You can't hear it, but a leaked file dropped back into Aden tells you which link it came from and who you sent it to.

Add a watermark

  1. On your team, go to Settings → Watermarks. For an organisation, open its Settings tab.
  2. Press New watermark and pick Audible, Inaudible or Both.
  3. For an audible tag, drop an audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 15 seconds). Choose how often it plays and how loud it sits over the music. An inaudible watermark needs no file, just a name.
  4. Press Add watermark.

Turn on Use on new share links to have every new link start with it. Press play on a tag in the list to hear it back.

Watermarks added on an organisation show up for every team in it. Teams can use them but only the organisation's admins can change or remove them.

In the share dialog, press the Watermark pill and pick a tag. Your default tag is already picked. You can also switch it on or off later on the link's card.

What listeners get:

  • On the share page: an audible tag plays over the music, with the song dipping underneath it. An inaudible one changes nothing they can hear.
  • On download: the file is marked before it saves, and comes out as a WAV.

Trace a leaked file

  1. Go back to Settings → Watermarks on the team the track belongs to.
  2. Drop the file into Check a file.
  3. Read the result: Certain match or Likely match names the link, who it was sent to and when it was made. No match means the file carries no mark from your links.

The check runs in your browser: the file is never uploaded. The hidden ID survives volume changes, conversion to mono, a trimmed start and a new sample rate. Very heavy re-encoding or time stretching can erase it, and then the check says no match rather than guessing.

Removing a watermark stops marking on the links that used it. The links keep working.
