BusinessRoyalty periods

Run a royalty period

Create a period, calculate every artist's statement, recoup advances and costs, then close and publish it.

Business owners and admins only.

Create a period

  1. Open Royalties and press New period. Aden suggests the quarter after your last one.
  2. Under More options, you can hold back a share of physical sales for returns (released in the next period) and set a minimum payout. Balances below it carry forward.

Sales files dated inside the period are filed under it, now and whenever you import or sync more.

Calculate

  1. Open the period and press Calculate.
  2. Each artist gets a draft statement, using the deal model on the track, its album or the artist team (the most specific wins), or else a rights deal your business is part of.
  3. Check Unreported: lines that couldn't be paid because they match no track, or the track has no deal. Fix those and calculate again.

Amounts in other currencies use the period's Exchange rates, fixed at the first calculation so recalculating never moves an amount. Change them from the period's menu while it's open.

Add advances and costs

Press Add advance or cost to record money you paid an artist or spent for them, such as a video or a campaign. It's recouped from their royalties at the next calculation, and also shows in the team's financials. Advances on a rights deal are recouped too. Each one is charged once.

To add a manual line, such as an opening balance from your old system or a correction, open the artist's statement.

Close and publish

  1. Press Close period. Aden calculates once more and locks the balances. Close periods in order, since each balance carries into the next.
  2. Press Publish statements. Each artist team sees its statement in Financials → Statements.

You can Reopen period, or Unpublish statements while none are marked paid.
