# Split a version into stems
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/your-music/version-stems/split-into-stems

Separate a mix into six stems you can mute, compare and keep, on the Max plan.
On the Max plan, Aden can pull a finished mix apart into six stems, such as vocals and drums. The original version stays as it is.

## Split a version [#split-a-version]

1. Open the version's **…** menu.
2. Choose **Analyze**, then **Split into stems**.
3. The **Stems** tab opens with the separated parts as muted drafts.
4. Unmute parts to compare them.
5. Save the ones you want, and discard the rest.

Type "stems", "vocals", "acapella" or "separate" in the version menu's search box, or in ⌘K, to find it.

<Callout>
 You need edit access to the version. Below Max, the option stays in the menu, greyed out, with the reason.
</Callout>

## Limits [#limits]

* Files up to 500 MB and one hour long.
* Up to 12 splits or voice cleanups an hour per account.
* Not available when your account or team requires zero data retention.

The phone app has the same action, and plays and saves the drafts.

## Other readings in Analyze [#other-readings-in-analyze]

The same **Analyze** menu holds **Track feedback**, **Analyze BPM and key** and **Analyze lyrics from audio**.
