# Stems

Layer parts over a version, record vocals over it in the browser, and play it all as one mix.
A stem is audio that plays on top of a version: a part you bounced from your DAW, a loop, or a vocal you sang over the track in the browser. Each stem sits at its own spot on the version's timeline. Stems only play with their version and are never part of a download or a release.

Open a version's **Stems** tab to start.
