# Change the notes in a sample
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/your-music/midi-editor/note-editor

Move the notes inside a chord, loop or vocal like in Melodyne, turn minor into major, and download it.
The note editor reads the notes stacked in a recording so you can change them without recording again. It's free at tools.aden.space/melo, "Note editor" in ⌘K, and behind the tuning fork in the Key finder. Nothing is uploaded.

## Edit a sample [#edit-a-sample]

1. Drop a sample or song, or press **Choose a sample**. WAV, MP3, FLAC and AIFF up to 10 minutes work. Keys, pads, guitar and voices read best.
2. The sample shows as a heat map behind a piano roll, with its notes as bars on top.
3. Drag a note up or down, or select it and use the arrow keys, to move it a semitone. Shift click or Ctrl/⌘ drag picks several. The sample loops with your change in it.
4. The key switch, like Am or A, turns minor into major and back.
5. The round arrow undoes every change; Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes the last one.

## Work on it as MIDI [#work-on-it-as-midi]

Switch from **Audio** to **MIDI** to edit the same notes as MIDI, with the sample still drawn behind. MIDI edits never change the sample, and switching back keeps them, the key you picked and where you were zoomed in.

## Take it away [#take-it-away]

**Download** saves the sample as it now sounds, as a WAV, or the notes as a MIDI file at the sample's tempo.

## Start over with another sample [#start-over-with-another-sample]

* The upload arrow opens another sample in place of this one. Dropping a file on the editor does the same.
* The bin removes the sample and shows the drop zone again. Press **Undo** in the message that appears to bring it back.
