# Edit MIDI
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/your-music/midi-editor/edit-midi

Draw and edit notes in the piano roll, pick the sound they play on, and download them as a MIDI file.
## Pick a sound [#pick-a-sound]

Press the sound name next to any MIDI player and type to search:

* **Built in**: Piano, Dance piano, Deep piano, Electric piano, Guitar, Muted guitar, Synth, Pad and Organ. They play at once, even offline.
* **Your samplers**: instruments made from your own samples. See [Make a sampler](/docs/help/your-music/midi-editor/samplers).

The sound you pick sticks for every MIDI player on Aden.

## Edit notes [#edit-notes]

* Press play or Space to play from the playhead. Click the ruler to move it.
* Draw notes in the piano roll, drag them, stretch them, delete them. Each note sounds as you add it.
* Pinch or Ctrl/⌘ and scroll to zoom; scroll sideways to move along.
* Drag the ends of a scrollbar to resize: the bottom one stretches time, the one beside the keys makes notes taller or slimmer. Alt/⌥ and scroll does the same for the keys.
* Drop a MIDI file on the editor to open it. The eraser clears every note, with Undo.

Pick your DAW next to the sound to use its shortcuts. Some that work everywhere:

| Do this | Shortcut |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| Pick notes | Ctrl/⌘ click, or Shift click to add |
| Pick all, pick none | Ctrl/⌘+A, Esc |
| Up or down a semitone | ↑ ↓ (with Shift, an octave) |
| Earlier or later | ← → by a sixteenth (with Shift, a bar) |
| Copy, cut, paste | Ctrl/⌘+C, X, V |
| Undo, redo | Ctrl/⌘+Z, Ctrl/⌘+Shift+Z |

## The free MIDI editor [#the-free-midi-editor]

tools.aden.space/midi is the editor on its own, free and without an account. It's also "MIDI editor" in ⌘K.

* **Chords**: type a progression like "Am7 Fmaj7 C/E G" and press Write.
* **BPM**: change the tempo and the notes follow.
* **Download** the file, or drag the download button onto a track in your DAW.
* **Copy link**: the notes live in the link, up to 400 of them.
* **Recent** keeps the sketches you left, in your browser only.

In ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps, add the Aden MIDI editor and ask for chords or a melody. You get the file, a link, and the editor right in the chat.
