# Teach bots with skills
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/work-together/chat/skills

Write playbooks like your brand voice or a release checklist, and have the AI and bots follow them when they're needed.
A skill is a short written guide: your brand voice, a checklist, a playbook, a policy. The AI and your bots read it when it fits the conversation.

## Create a skill [#create-a-skill]

1. Open your team's skills and choose **Create skill**.
2. Give it a name and a line about when to use it. The clearer that line, the better the AI knows when to read it.
3. Write the skill. Switch between editing, a split view and a preview as you go.
4. Turn on **Pinned** to load it in every chat, or add trigger phrases like "write a caption" so it only loads when someone says them.

Start from a template, or choose **Import from GitHub** and paste a link to bring in skills someone has published.

## Use a skill [#use-a-skill]

* Type $ and the skill's name in a chat. The AI follows it for the rest of that chat.
* When you edit a bot, pick skills under **Follows skills** and that bot always follows them.
* The Bot maker can write a new skill for you while it sets up a bot.

## Share skills [#share-skills]

Skills live in your team, in your organisation, or come from Aden. A team on an organisation's roster gets the organisation's skills too, unless they are private. Copy a shared skill into your own space to edit it.
