# Set a nickname
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/start-here/account/nickname

Show up as your artist name on comments, chat and your profile, while contracts keep your legal name.
Most artists don't release under their passport name. A nickname replaces your real name wherever other people see you: comments, chat, mentions, member lists, notifications and your public profile. Contracts, splits, signing and tax always use your real name.

## Set it [#set-it]

1. Open **Account**. The **Nickname** field sits with your name.
2. Type one, or tap one of your acts to use its name.
3. Save. A line under the field shows what everyone else will see.

Quicker ways in: right-click your own name on a comment and pick **Set a nickname** (or **Change nickname**), or use the pencil beside your name on your own public profile. When you create a team, you can take its name as your nickname on the same step.

## Change or clear it [#change-or-clear-it]

Clear the field to bring your real name back everywhere. Old comments follow your current nickname, so renaming yourself renames every comment you have left.

<Callout>
  A nickname can't match a team on Aden that you are not part of. If you are in that act, ask them to add you to the team. Two people can share a nickname; only acts are protected.
