# CRM timeline

One chronological history per contact, team and organisation. Notes, meeting write-ups, calls, follow-ups and the real email threads that go with them, all on the shared comments layer.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

Every contact, team and organisation has one page that answers "what has
actually happened with these people?". The meeting you wrote up last month,
the call you had this morning, the follow-up you still owe them, and the real
email threads that go with all of it, in one list, newest first.

Notes are typed by you. Emails are read live from the mailbox you connected, so
replies that arrive later show up on the timeline without anyone forwarding
anything. Nothing is copied into a second system: the conversation lives where
it always did, it is just visible next to the record it is about.

## Using it [#using-it]

**Log a contact point.** Open a contact (or a team, from your organisation) and
type in the box at the top of the timeline. That is the whole requirement. The
rest of the row (note / meeting / call / follow-up, and the date) appears once
you start writing, and a plain note filed as of now needs neither. ⌘/Ctrl +
Enter saves.

**Chase something later.** Choose "Follow-up", set a due date, and it stays on
the timeline marked open until you tick it off. Overdue ones are flagged.

**Keep the important thing at the top.** Pin any note (⋯ → Pin) and it stays
above the chronological list. The "always read this before you call them" note.

**See the emails.** With a mailbox connected, threads with this person render in
the timeline: expand one to read it, reply straight from the page, or open it in
Gmail for attachments and forwarding. "New email" starts a fresh conversation
that attaches itself, so the replies come back here.

**Pull in a conversation that started in your inbox.** Press "Find earlier
emails with …" and attach any thread we find. Detaching later removes it from
the page and leaves the mail itself untouched.

**Write it in markdown.** Entries render formatted. A pasted meeting write-up
keeps its headings, bold and lists instead of showing raw asterisks. Turn it off
per person under Display → "Render markdown" if you would rather read the source.

**Dating an entry is one click.** The composer has one date button: for a note
it is when it happened (backdating a write-up is the common case), for a
follow-up it is when it is due. Its popover carries Now / Today / Tomorrow /
Next week, so you only open the calendar for an actual odd date. Leave it alone
and the entry is filed as of now. An entry already on the timeline can be moved
with ⋯ → "Move to now".

**Narrow a long history.** Search the timeline, and use Filter to keep one kind
(notes, calls, meetings, follow-ups, emails), only open follow-ups, or. On
/admin, only staff-only entries. Display sets the order, density, whether the
author and kind badge show, and whether entries group under day headings. Those
preferences are yours and follow you to every record; the filters are per visit.

**Send someone straight to one entry.** ⋯ → "Copy link" gives a URL that reopens
the record on the timeline with that entry highlighted and scrolled to.

**See everyone you still owe something.** "Follow-ups" in the toolbar on your
leads page opens a panel listing every open follow-up across all your records
at once, grouped by the person or record it belongs to, so an action plan you
agreed in a meeting does not sit buried on one contact's timeline. Filter to
overdue or the next seven days, or to the ones you wrote yourself, and tick
items off from the panel.

**Book the next call from the record.** "Schedule meeting" in the panel header
writes the event to one of your own connected calendars (Google or Outlook),
lets the provider mint the Meet or Teams link and mail the invite, and drops a
meeting entry with the join link on the timeline. The record's address is
pre-selected as the guest; untick it, or pick a different calendar, length or
agenda, before booking. With no calendar connected the dialog links you to
Account → Availability instead.

**No mailbox connected yet?** You still get one click to the conversation:
"Search Gmail for …" (or Outlook, Yahoo, Proton) opens your own mailbox with the
person's address already searched.
