# Note editor
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/more/note-editor

Drop a sample or a song (a chord, a loop, a whole vocal, up to 10 minutes) and move its notes like in Melodyne, or turn minor into major in one press. Switch to MIDI to edit the same notes as MIDI over the sample's spectrogram. Download the result as a WAV or the notes as MIDI. Free at tools.aden.space/melo (melo.aden.space), and inside the Key finder as Edit notes.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

Change the notes inside a sample without re-recording it. Drop a chord, a
loop or a phrase and Aden reads the notes stacked in it. Move one, or turn the
whole sample from minor to major, and take the notes away as MIDI.

It lives at `tools.aden.space/melo` (also `melo.aden.space`, and "Note editor"
in ⌘K). The Key finder has the same editor behind the tuning fork on a track.

## Use it [#use-it]

1. Drop a sample or a song on the page, or press **Choose a sample**. WAV,
MP3, FLAC and AIFF up to 10 minutes work; keys, pads, guitar and voices
read best. A song opens on its first bars: zoom out or scroll sideways
   for the rest.
2. The sample shows as a heatmap behind a piano roll, its notes as bars on
top. Bars run along the top: press or drag them to move the playhead.
3. Drag a note up or down, or select it and press the arrow keys, to move it a
semitone at a time. Shift-click or Ctrl/⌘-drag picks several. You hear the
note as you drag, and the sample loops with the change in it. A moved note
lights up, with a dashed outline where it was.
4. The key switch (Am or A) turns minor into major, or back, by moving the
   key's third, sixth and seventh.
5. The round arrow undoes every change. Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes the last one.
6. **Audio or MIDI**: MIDI turns the same notes into MIDI on the same roll,
with the sample still drawn behind them. Move them in time, stretch, add
and delete notes with the MIDI editor's shortcuts, and play them on any
sound. Your MIDI edits never change the sample, and switching back to
   Audio keeps them.

## Take it away [#take-it-away]

* **Download**: the sample as it now sounds (WAV), or the notes on screen as
MIDI (`.mid`, at the sample's tempo): the moved notes in Audio, your MIDI in
  MIDI.
* **Open another sample**: the upload button in the toolbar, or drop a new
  file on the editor.

Nothing is uploaded: the sample is read and changed in your browser.
