# Drum generators
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/more/kick-generator

Drum synths in the browser on tools.aden.space (kick.aden.space lands on the kick). One voice makes kicks, snares, claps, hi-hats, crashes and rumbles, in Simple, Advanced or Pro mode; drop a sample to bring yours in, or a song to take its kick, snare, clap, hats or crash; four sounds like the current one to dig into; blend several into one; share a sound as a link that previews as it; a drum kit that starts from a kit preset, loops a groove, digs whole kits and takes every drum out of a song (and puts it back); every value scrolls.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

Drum synths that run in your browser, at `tools.aden.space`: a kick, snare,
clap, hi-hat, crash and rumble generator. No plugin, no account.
`kick.aden.space` opens the kick.

* **Simple, Advanced or Pro.** Simple shows the sound's waveform and a few
knobs named for the drum: a kick's sweep, click and body, a snare's body,
ring, snares and decay, a clap's hands and tail, a hat's decay from closed
to open, a rumble's tail and pump. Drag, scroll or use the arrow keys.
Advanced is the timeline of curves, named for the drum too (a snare's
noise is its Snares). Pro adds effects after the drum: an EQ drawn over the
sound's spectrum, a compressor and a limiter. The page remembers your pick.
* **Shape it.** Every drum is the same voice in layers: a tone, a click,
noise, metal and a reverb tail, with drive on top. Each drum shows the
curves it uses on one timeline: a kick its pitch, amp and click, a clap its
noise bursts and room, a hi-hat its metal. Drag a point, drag the dot
between two points to bend the line, double-click (or double-tap) to add
one. The row under the timeline holds the curve's own settings.
* **Bring yours in.** Drop a WAV, AIFF or FLAC on the page, or several: the
first opens, the rest blend into it. A kick or rumble is rebuilt as
editable curves and plays back as it was; any other drum plays your sample
as its click layer, to cut, pitch and filter.
* **Take it from a song.** Drop a whole song (or a loop) on the kick, snare,
clap, hi-hat or crash page. The drum is found where it plays the same way
again and again, lined up and averaged until the rest of the mix cancels
out; a clap on the kick's beat comes out without the kick. A kick starts
remade as a synth kick, the others as the cleaned sample; switch between
remade, cleaned and as it is in the song. **Clean** sets how much of the
song is taken out of it, from the plain average to everything that isn't
the drum. A song with more than one candidate gives each (1, 2, 3); in
Advanced and Pro the song shows where each one hits. Drop several songs at once and their drums
blend: one list under the bar has a row per song with its mix and a way
out, and Version and Clean set once for all of them.
* **Mark it yourself.** When the finder took the wrong drum, the crop button
on a song opens it zoomed in: scroll or pinch to zoom, drag over one hit
(or type its start and length), play it, and use it. Every place the song
plays it again is averaged in. A song where nothing was found stays in the
  list to mark by hand.
* **Dig.** Under the sound are four like it. Play one, drag it into your DAW,
or press Dig: it becomes the sound and you get four like that one. The
display's menu lists the sounds it came from, one click back.
* **Blend.** Drag sounds (cards, recent ones or files) onto the page and drop
them on Blend in, or press the layers button on a card. Each gets a row
and a share: more of this one, less of that. The blend goes by its parts'
titles ("Long Time Aftermath + Your Love"); Done keeps it and puts the
parts away. Bodies merge into one tone, so they can't
cancel each other the way layered samples do, and clicks are lined up and
  polarity-matched before they mix.
* **Share.** The address bar always holds the sound you're editing, so the
link is the sound. Share link, in the Export menu, copies it (or opens
the share sheet on a phone). In Discord, iMessage or Slack the link previews as the sound: its
name, note and waveform. A kick taken from a song shares as it is: the
link carries its first few milliseconds as audio. A longer imported
sample travels as a recreation built from the synth's own layers: a
clap's hands, the band its noise sits in, how it decays, and a snare's
  shell.
* **Watch it play.** A playhead runs through the timeline and the cards and
lights up what has played, glowing on the screens; the play button gives on every hit, the loop's
too. One sound previews at a time: playing another cuts the last one off.
* **Recently played.** Every sound that played this session, newest first,
one click from being the sound again.
* **Make it your size.** Drag the page's sides to widen it, and the bottom
edge of the timeline, the waveform or the EQ to make it taller.
Double-click an edge to reset. This browser remembers.
* **Space or Enter plays**, wherever you just tweaked: a curve point, a knob,
  a value.
* **Scroll to edit.** Rest the pointer on any value (the note, tune, length,
gain, a share) and scroll, like a knob. Shift steps further, Alt finer.
* **Presets.** Each drum's own, by style: the 808 and 909, house (bass
house, future house, UK garage, afro), techno, trap, acoustic snares,
tambourines, a reverse cymbal and more. The display on top names the
sound; step through presets with its arrows (or a scroll) or open it to
search them, and save the sound as one of yours with the bookmark; it
stays in this browser, click again to forget it.
* **Export.** Download a WAV (44.1 or 48 kHz, 24 or 16-bit), or drag the
Export button or any card straight onto a track in FL Studio or any DAW:
from the Aden desktop app every DAW takes it, in a browser Chrome and Edge
  carry the file.

### Drum kit [#drum-kit]

`tools.aden.space/kit` puts six drums together: a kick, snare, clap, hi-hat,
crash and rumble, looping a groove (techno, house, trap or breaks).

* **Loop it.** Play loops the bar at its tempo; the step being heard is
  marked as it goes.
* **Kit presets.** The display at the top steps through ready kits (‹ ›, a
scroll, or its menu by style: techno, house, hip hop and trap, breaks and
bass), each with its groove and tempo. Every drum in one is a preset its
own page lists, so the clap chip opens the clap page on "909". Its menu
also lists the kits this one was dug from, one click back.
* **Edit the bar.** Click a step to add a hit or take it away, or drag a
hit along its row to move it; it sounds as it lands. Each change is one
  undo step, a drag too.
* **Dig.** Under the kit are four kits like it: every sound a variation in
the same key, and a few hits moved on the hats, snare, clap and rumble.
Play one, or Dig to make it the kit and get four like that one.
* **Fit together.** Tunes the snare and rumble to the kick and evens out the
  levels, kick on top.
* **From a song.** Drop a song on the page (or From a song) and the kit
becomes its drums: the kick remade, the snare or clap, the hats and the
crash cleaned out of the mix, playing the bar they play there, at its
tempo and levels. Drums the song doesn't have keep their sound, silent.
The × beside a song's name takes it out again, back to the kit and tempo
from before it (or, after a reload, to the preset it was taken over),
  with Undo.
* **Shape a drum.** Each drum's chip opens its page with that sound loaded.
"Use in the kit" on any drum page sends a sound back.
* **Export.** The loop as a WAV (it loops cleanly: tails fold back to the
start), as MIDI for a drum rack (General MIDI notes), or the six sounds in
a zip. Drag the Export button onto a DAW track to drop the loop there.

| Key | Does |
| -------------- | -------------------------- |
| Space or Enter | Play, or stop the loop |
| ⌘Z | Undo, digs and imports too |
| ⇧⌘Z | Redo |

On a phone, sound plays even with the ring switch on silent.

### From a project on Aden [#from-a-project-on-aden]

A drum lane in a project on Aden opens here with **Open in Kick tool** (or
Clap, Hi-hat…), the lane's sample loaded. **Send to** the project, in the
sound bar, puts the sound back on that lane, playing at once; send again
after more changes. Save the project on Aden to keep it.
