# Desktop split screen

Two surfaces side by side in the desktop shell, opened by Alt-clicking a link, a sidebar row or a tab.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

The desktop window can show two things at once. Hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and
click:

* a link inside the Aden web app: the page it points at opens beside the one
you are reading, which stays where it was
* a page in the Links sidebar, or one of its pinned tiles: that page opens in
  the second pane
* a tab in the title bar: that surface opens in the second pane

The picker beside the address controls does the same thing with a menu, and
lists what can go there. Drag the divider to resize, and close the second pane
from its own header or from the picker.

The second pane's header has three controls: back, open this page in the main
pane, and close.
