# Artist name check
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/more/artist-name-check

A free tool at tools.aden.space/name. Type an artist name and see whether it is free in music (artists with the name on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer, EU trademarks for it) and whether its handle is free on TikTok, YouTube, X, SoundCloud, Twitch, Mixcloud and Linktree, with Instagram one click away.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

Check whether an artist name is free before you release under it. Open
`tools.aden.space/name`. No account needed.

## Using it [#using-it]

* **Type the name and press Enter.** The answer comes first: taken in music,
trademarked for music, free with some handles taken, or free.
* **In music**: how many artists release under exactly that name on Spotify,
Apple Music and Deezer, with a link to the first one. Case, accents, spaces
and punctuation don't count: "Daft Punk" and "DAFT-PUNK" are one name.
* **EU trademarks**: live marks on the EU register (EUIPO) for the name. Marks
in class 9 (recordings) or 41 (performing) are the ones that matter for an
artist; others show as "outside music".
* **Handles**: the handle the name makes (lowercase, no accents, spaces or
punctuation: "Mira Lindqvist" is `@miralindqvist`) and whether it is taken
or free on TikTok, YouTube, X, SoundCloud, Twitch, Mixcloud and Linktree.
Instagram is listed first with "Check yourself": it can't be read without
signing in, so the row opens the profile instead. "Taken" links to the
profile. When a platform didn't let us check, "Check
yourself" opens the profile address so you can see. A handle longer or
shorter than a platform allows says so.
* Share a check: the address keeps the name (`/name?name=…`).

Instagram, Threads, Facebook and Bandcamp can't be checked: they show
nothing to a visitor who isn't signed in. Instagram still gets its row, as
the handle artists look for first. A "free"
handle means no public profile has it today; a platform can still hold names
of deleted or banned accounts.
