Pin related tracks to a track as inspiration or context. Search your own library, search Spotify by song name or ISRC, or paste any link. References work both ways: you can see what a track references and what references it.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

**References** let you pin related tracks to the one you're working on, "this
remix references that original", "this is the vibe we're going for". A reference
can be another track from your own library, or an external link from YouTube,
SoundCloud, Spotify, or anywhere else.

## Using it [#using-it]

### Adding a reference track [#adding-a-reference-track]

1. Open a track and go to **Metadata → References** (or the references panel on
   the track create form).
2. Press **Add reference track** and type into the one search field. It takes
   all of these:
   * a **song name**: matches your own tracks and searches Spotify,
   * an **ISRC**: looks the recording up on Spotify directly,
   * a **link** from Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, Apple Music, Mixcloud or
     Dropbox.
3. Picking a Spotify result stores its real title, artist, ISRC, artwork and
   canonical link, so you never have to type them in. Other links are stored as
   links.
4. Remove a reference any time with the trash icon.
