# Add track by link

Create a track from the link it already lives on (SoundCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, YouTube, Spotify, or a smart link from Feature.fm, Linkfire, Hypeddit or Songlink) instead of uploading a master, so an existing catalogue can be migrated into Aden in an afternoon, with the pasted source embedded on the track page and the upload still available later.

## What it is [#what-it-is]

Aden already imports **released** music: connect Spotify and your catalogue
arrives with artwork, ISRCs and release dates. Unreleased music had no such
path. Everything you had not put out yet meant uploading a file, one track at a
time, before Aden knew the song existed at all.

Now you can create a track from **a link**. Paste the SoundCloud, Dropbox,
Google Drive, YouTube or Spotify address the song already lives at, and the
track is created without an upload. It gets a page, a status, a card on your
Tracks board, collaborators, splits, todos, release planning: everything the
board is for.

What you give up is the part that needs the audio itself. There are no
**versions**, no waveform, and the board's **play button** stays empty, because
Aden has no file to play. You get the host's own player on the track page
instead. Upload the master whenever it is ready and the normal version flow
takes over.

## Using it [#using-it]

1. Go to **Tracks → Create**.
2. Under the audio dropzone, paste the link into **Or paste a link**. A badge
   names the service Aden recognised, and a preview of the player appears
   underneath so you can check it is the right song.
3. Fill in the title and anything else you want, and create the track.
4. Open the track. The player from that service sits at the top of the page,
   with **Add version** underneath it for whenever you upload the real file.

You can add, change or remove the link later in the track's **Settings**, in the
same field the remix listen link uses.

### Which links work [#which-links-work]

Anything is accepted and stored. These play in-page: SoundCloud, Dropbox,
Google Drive, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Mixcloud and Suno.
Anything else, including Bandcamp, becomes an **Open on …** link on the track
page rather than a player.

Dropbox links are streamed as plain audio, so the share link plays without
sending anyone to Dropbox.

### Moving a smart link over [#moving-a-smart-link-over]

Paste a smart link from Feature.fm, Linkfire, Hypeddit, Songlink, ToneDen and
the like, and Aden reads the page: the title, the artwork and the link to each
store. A release that is out lands as **released** and **public**, with every
store link on your public page, so the smart link is no longer needed. The field
swaps to the best player (Spotify first), and a line under it says where the
details came from.

Only empty fields are filled. A title you typed first stays, and status or
visibility you already changed stay too.

A Hypeddit download gate carries other people's releases next to yours, so no
store links are read from it. The gate becomes the track's listen button
instead.

You can also paste the link straight into ⌘K: **Import track from Feature.fm**
opens this form with the link in it, and **Import into** adds it to your latest
release.
