The signup details step validates the invite code against the server and looks up the user's IPI number from the public songwriter credit indexes.

## Finding your IPI number during signup [#finding-your-ipi-number-during-signup]

Your IPI (or CAE) number identifies you at your collecting society. If you
don't know yours, type your name in the signup form and press the search icon
in the **IPI number** field. Aden searches the public songwriter credit
indexes and shows the matches it finds, with how many registered works sit
behind each one so you can tell them apart. Pick the one that's you, or leave
the field empty and add it later in your profile.

If nothing comes up, type the name you release music under in the box at the
bottom of the results and search again. Writers are often indexed under the
name their records carry rather than their legal one.

Your invite code is checked as soon as you continue past the details step, so
you'll know right away if it isn't valid.
