# Work out when an advance recoups
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/free-tools/royalty-calculators

Enter an advance, costs and a royalty rate to see when a deal pays back and what the artist earns after that.
The [Recoupment calculator](https://aden.space/tools/recoupment-calculator) shows when an advance pays back from the artist's royalty. It's free for labels, managers and artists, needs no account, and nothing you type is sent to Aden.

## Run the numbers [#run-the-numbers]

1. Open the [Recoupment calculator](https://aden.space/tools/recoupment-calculator).
2. Pick a **Statement period**: **Monthly** or **Quarterly**. Switching keeps the same deal, so 2,500 a month becomes 7,500 a quarter.
3. Enter the **Advance** and the **Recoupable costs**.
4. Enter the **Artist royalty**, as a percentage of net receipts.
5. Enter the net receipts per period, and if you like a growth per period. Use a negative growth for a release that slows down.
6. Pick the currency. It applies to every amount.

## Read the answer [#read-the-answer]

* The month or quarter the deal recoups in, and what the artist is paid each period after that.
* With no advance or costs, the artist is paid from the start.
* If it doesn't recoup within 10 years, you see how much is still unrecouped and what to change.
* The chart shows the unrecouped balance over time. Point at it, or tap, to read any period.
* Open the period by period table for receipts, royalty, balance and payout.
