# Design a drum sound
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/free-tools/kick-generator/design-a-drum-sound

Start from a preset, then shape the sound with a few knobs, a timeline of curves, or effects.
Every drum page starts on a sound you can play right away. Shape it as little or as much as you like.

## Start from a preset [#start-from-a-preset]

1. Open the drum you want, such as the [Kick generator](https://tools.aden.space/kick).
2. The display at the top names the sound. Step through presets with its arrows, or open it to search them by style: 808 and 909, house, techno, trap, acoustic snares and more.
3. Press Space or Enter to play.

To keep a sound, press the bookmark beside its name. It stays in this browser. Click again to forget it.

## Pick how much control you want [#pick-how-much-control-you-want]

* **Simple** shows the waveform and a few knobs named for the drum, like a kick's sweep, click and body, or a snare's ring and snares.
* **Advanced** shows the sound's curves on a timeline, such as a kick's pitch, level and click.
* **Pro** adds an EQ drawn over the sound, a compressor and a limiter.

The page remembers your pick.

## Shape it [#shape-it]

* Drag a knob, scroll over it, or use the arrow keys.
* On the timeline, drag a point, drag the dot between two points to bend the line, and double click to add a point.
* Rest the pointer on any value, such as the note, tune or length, and scroll to change it. Hold Shift for bigger steps, Alt for finer ones.
* Space or Enter plays the sound from wherever you just tweaked.

Undo with ⌘Z and redo with ⇧⌘Z. **Recently played** lists every sound you played this session, one click from bringing it back.

## Make it your size [#make-it-your-size]

Drag the page's sides to widen it, or the bottom edge of the timeline, waveform or EQ to make it taller. Double click an edge to reset it.
