# Find a song's key and BPM
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/free-tools/key-finder/find-a-songs-key

Drop a file, type a song's name, paste a link, or let the Key finder listen, and get the key, BPM and chords.
Get the key and tempo of any song in a few seconds, from whatever you have.

## From a file [#from-a-file]

1. Open the [Key finder](https://tools.aden.space/key).
2. Press **Upload**, or drop the file on the page. Acapellas, instrumentals and full songs all work.
3. The key and BPM show on the track, and the waveform is coloured by key. If the song changes key, each key is printed where it starts.

For anything up to a minute, such as a loop or a sample, the chords also show under the waveform. Press a chord to hear it.

## From a song's name or a link [#from-a-songs-name-or-a-link]

1. Type the song's name, or paste a Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud, Deezer or smart link, in the **Song name or link** field.
2. Each result shows its key and BPM. Press one, or press Enter for the first, to add it.

You don't need the audio. To hear the song in the playlist later, drop its file on its lane.

## By listening [#by-listening]

1. Press **Listen** and choose **Microphone**, or **Tab or screen audio** to hear a song playing on your computer (Chrome, Edge and the desktop app).
2. Play or sing something. The first key shows within about two seconds, and the wheel follows the music as it changes.
3. Press **Stop listening** when you're done.

## Pick up where you left off [#pick-up-where-you-left-off]

The keys and songs you looked at last sit under **Recent**. Press one to go back to it. They stay in your browser, and **Clear** empties the list.

## Save a track to Aden [#save-a-track-to-aden]

Open a track's … menu and choose **Save as track**. Aden opens on a new track with the file, title, BPM and key filled in.
