# Train your ear
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/free-tools/ear-trainer

Learn to name notes, intervals and chords by ear, one level at a time, with a daily goal and stats.
The [Ear trainer](https://tools.aden.space/ear) plays something and you name it. Free, no account needed.

## Pick a skill [#pick-a-skill]

Choose one above the trainer:

* **Notes**: a note plays and you name it on the piano. Start with middle C, add the white keys, then the black keys, then any octave and any sound.
* **Intervals**: two notes play and you name the distance. Start with the fifth and the octave, then add the rest, going up, then down, then both notes at once.
* **Chords**: a chord plays and you name its quality. Start with major and minor, then diminished, augmented and suspended, then the seventh chords.

Each level adds an answer or two, and each unit ends on a checkpoint. Every level stays open, so you can jump ahead.

## Play a round [#play-a-round]

1. Press Start, or Space. The question plays.
2. Press your answer with the mouse, a tap or the keyboard. For notes, A is C up to J for B. For intervals and chords, the number keys pick the answers in order.
3. Right, and the next question plays. Wrong, and the screen shows the answer, plays yours and then the right one, and waits.
4. **Play again**, or Space, repeats the question.

After you answer, the keys below light the notes that played. Tap a key to hear it.

A round passes at 80% right, a checkpoint at 90%. Answers you miss come up more often.

## Settings [#settings]

The settings pick the sound, from piano and guitar to organ and synth. For notes, it can play a middle C before each one, to help you start by relative pitch.

## Stats [#stats]

The ring in the bar fills toward eight minutes a day. Press it for today's minutes, your streak, your mastery and how each answer went this month. Progress stays in this browser.
