# Record publishing from a session
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/business/rights-deals/record-session-publishing

Note which publisher takes the publishing written in a session, carve writers out, and read your splits.
A camp or studio session is often where publishing changes hands: a publisher hosts the room and takes the publishing from what's written there. Record it on the session, so a year later anyone can see who holds it and on what terms.

## Set the room's publisher [#set-the-rooms-publisher]

1. Open the session and go to its participants.
2. Under **Publishing from this session**, pick the publisher. A business on Aden brings its registered name, society and IPI with it. A publisher that isn't on Aden can be typed in.
3. Add the terms agreed in the room.
4. Tick the option to claim for every writer who has no decision yet, and save.

## Carve a writer out [#carve-a-writer-out]

A writer already signed elsewhere is set to **Carved out** on their own row, with their own publisher. Changing the room's publisher later never overwrites them.

## How splits add up [#how-splits-add-up]

Splits are three separate ledgers, and each one adds up to 100% on its own:

* **Writer's share**: the song, from the writers' side. Paid straight to writers by their societies. A publishing deal never takes this half.
* **Publisher's share**: the same song, from the publishing side. A writer with no publisher holds their own share here.
* **Master**: the recording, not the song, shared between its owners.

The first two together are why people talk about 200%: the song is registered once from each side. A writer on 50% of the writer's share and a publisher on 100% of the publisher's share aren't competing for the same number.
