# Make WAVs smaller and fix them for DJ players
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/apps/desktop/shrink-wavs

Turn WAVs you don't use in a DJ app into MP3 that plays everywhere, and fix 32-bit WAVs CDJs won't load, without losing a cue or a playlist.
Mashups, edits and bounces pile up as big WAVs. Some are 32-bit, which many CDJs and controllers refuse to load. Aden finds both, and keeps your DJ library safe: rekordbox, Serato, Traktor and Virtual DJ keep every playlist, cue point and beat grid.

## Clean up one folder from Finder [#clean-up-one-folder-from-finder]

1. In Finder, right-click a folder of mashups or sets, or a few songs.
2. Choose **Quick Actions** or **Services**, then Aden's **Clean Up Music**.
3. Aden opens **Clean up** and looks only there. The line above the list names the folder.
4. Go on below. Press **Scan everything** to look at your whole computer again.

## Review the WAVs [#review-the-wavs]

1. Open **Settings**, choose **Files**, and scroll to **Clean up**. Or search "make WAVs smaller" in ⌘K.
2. Open the two folders:
   * **Fix for DJ players**: 32-bit WAVs. Each becomes a 24-bit WAV with the same name.
   * **Make smaller**: songs in WAV that no DJ app and no project uses. Each becomes a 320 kbps MP3, which sounds the same and is about a sixth of the size. A 32-bit song here is fixed and made smaller in one go.
3. Each file says what it is now and what it becomes, like **32-bit float WAV → MP3 320 kbps · about 69 MB**.
4. Hover a file and press the folder button to see it in Finder or Explorer.
5. Tick a whole folder, or single files.

## Free up the space [#free-up-the-space]

1. Choose **Free up** at the top of the list. It shows about how much you get back.
2. Aden works through the files one at a time and counts them on the button.
3. A fixed WAV keeps its name, tags, cue points and date, so your DJ apps and projects still find it.
4. A WAV made smaller gets an MP3 beside it with the same name, date, tags and artwork.
5. The original WAVs go to your Trash or Recycle Bin. Empty it once you've checked the new files.

## Good to know [#good-to-know]

* Every CDJ, XDJ, Denon player, controller and DJ app plays these MP3s, even the old CDJs many clubs still have. FLAC isn't used for that reason.
* Loops and one-shots under a minute stay WAV, so they stay on beat.
* A WAV that any DJ app or project knows never becomes MP3. Only the fix, which keeps the name, touches it.
* If Aden can't read a DJ library, it turns nothing into MP3 and says why. Quit the DJ app and press **Scan again**.
* A WAV that peaks above full scale isn't fixed, because 24-bit would clip it. Export it again at 24-bit from your DAW.
* Old backups, unused takes and duplicate samples are in the same list: see [Free up space](/docs/help/apps/desktop/free-up-space).
