# Keep your DAW running smoothly
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/apps/desktop/performance-mode

Aden waits with its background work while you make music, so your DAW gets your Mac first.
Aden reads your samples in the background so you can search them. While FL Studio, Logic, Ableton Live or another DAW is the app in front, that work waits. Your DAW gets the processor and the disk, and you get fewer crackles and dropouts.

It is on by default on a Mac. You don't need to do anything.

## How it works [#how-it-works]

* Aden waits while your DAW is in front, and for two minutes after you switch away.
* Searching still works the whole time.
* Your project still syncs to its track when you save.
* New samples in a sample library are added once you're done.

## When your Mac slows itself down [#when-your-mac-slows-itself-down]

When performance mode starts, Aden checks two things that make a Mac slower on its own. It tells you once if it finds one.

* **Low Power Mode is on.** Click the notification to open Battery settings, then turn Low Power Mode off.
* **Your Mac is running hot.** Freeze heavy tracks or raise your DAW's buffer size.

## Turn it off [#turn-it-off]

1. Open **Settings → System**.
2. Turn off **Performance mode**.

You can also type "performance" in search.
