# Use your trackpad's edges as sliders
Source: https://docs.aden.space/docs/help/apps/desktop/aden-edge

Slide along an edge of your Mac's trackpad for volume, brightness, the next track, zooming, or any knob in your DAW.
Aden Edge turns the edges of your Mac's trackpad into sliders. Slide one finger along an edge and feel a tick as the level moves. Two fingers, and swipes in from the edge, work as always.

## Turn it on [#turn-it-on]

1. Open **Settings** and choose **Aden Edge**. Or search "Aden Edge" in ⌘K.
2. Switch on **Trackpad edges**.
3. If Aden asks for Accessibility, add Aden in System Settings. Skipping tracks, shortcuts and zoom need it.

Out of the box:

* **Left edge**: screen brightness.
* **Right edge**: volume.
* **Bottom edge**: slide right for the next track, left for the previous one.

## Change what an edge does [#change-what-an-edge-does]

Each thing an edge can do is a row with a little trackpad that shows its edge.

* Use the switch to turn a row on or off. Only one row per edge is on at a time.
* Choose **…** to rename it, move it to another edge, or change what it sends. **Remove** is there too.
* Choose **Add** for a new one: **MIDI knob**, **Zoom with keys held**, **Shortcut per step**, **Volume**, **Brightness** or **Next and previous track**.

## Control your DAW [#control-your-daw]

1. Under **In a DAW**, pick your DAW, like FL Studio or Ableton Live.
2. Turn on **Note height** or **Timeline zoom** to zoom where the pointer is. If your DAW zooms with other keys, choose **…** and change **Keys held**.
3. For a knob, turn on **MIDI knob**, then turn on the input called **Aden Edge** in your DAW's MIDI settings.
4. Use your DAW's MIDI learn on a knob or fader, then slide along the edge.

The edges go back to **Everywhere** when you switch to another app.

## Make it feel right [#make-it-feel-right]

Under **Feel**, turn **Haptics** off or on, make the edges **Narrow** or **Wide**, and set the **Sensitivity**.
